It feels like it’s been a hot minute since I posted a blog post because like has gotten very busy with my last week weeks on university coming around. Amongst all the coursework, business admin and client work I have been doing I have been doing a bit of evaluation on my own Instagram feed and content. And I have decided that there is going to be a little change on my feed which is coming within the next week so I thought I would talk about it more on here.
My Instagram feed has been through its phases for sure. I have been quite open with my battle on Instagram in regards to engagement, blocks and content. I have changed my content themes or edits more times than I can even remember and I am doing it once again. However I feel that changes to Instagram feeds is just a natural progression. Some people have a set aesthetic. Some people are still moulding and growing and changing. And as content creators to reflect that in our content is completely okay.
I have been through stages of bright and bold feeds. When I went to Croatia my feed was very orange and teal based and I posted random lifestyle and fashion images. Then I decided I wanted to take my content creation more serious. I took on a moodier edit which I feel is still very much a bit of me. Since I have bought a new camera and lens and I adore the high quality content creation look.
But I have still been battling with my Instagram. I love the editorial content creation vibes. Most of my favourite accounts are aesthetic accounts with dreamy product, fashion, interior and lifestyle pictures. However the reality is, is that broad aesthetic accounts really battle and struggle with Instagram’s algorithm. Instagram favours niched accounts that stick to its ideality of a good account. I don’t want to say I have given into the algorithm at all. I am creating my whole uni work about being creative and unique to battle against the idea. But something else clicked.
The accounts that come up on my explore page the most, and ones that I find myself drifting towards are very fashion focused accounts. Mirror selfies, OOTDs, latest styles. I am a fashion blogger but my content isn’t that fashion related. Or at least solely fashion related. I even started an OOTD instagram account for a bit. I decided I bit off more than I could chew when it came to timings however it performed really well and I liked styling the outfits.
So what will I be posting from now on? Just more fashion focused content! And I am really looking forward to it too. I was going to wait until after university to start this change. But I thought the sooner I start the sooner I might see the results. After asking my followers what they like to see it was a mix of fashion and aesthetic posts but my aesthetic posts never perform as well as my mirror styling photos. At least for the time being I am going to try changing it up and see how it goes.
I will keep you updated and in a few months I will report back with Instagram analytics to see if niching down your content actually works!
