An Updated Makeup Routine

Here is my updated makeup routine and all the products I use religiously on my face...

Did you know its been two years since I did a blog post about my makeup routine. YES TWO YEARS. So my blog has taken more of a fashion pathway, since then. However I thought I would do a little updated makeup routine for you because its been too long. Also whenever I am shooting fashion content I am always wearing makeup. I do want to put a little disclaimer out there though because I am not a makeup guru. And actually my makeup routine is pretty slap dash. I wish I were better at makeup, and it’s something I am going to practice more when I have the time to later this year. But as an every day makeup routine this is the one I have cracked. I will link all the products throughout the blog post and at the end, but any products marked * are affiliate links.

For the last four months I have been really struggling with break outs on my chin and cheeks. I chose not to edit them out my photo above as I wanted to show you the reality. But as my skin is really dry I can’t wear layers and layers of foundation or concealer as it just looks too cakey. So its been really important to find some base products that work with my skin. After experimenting recently I have found primer doesn’t work for me. Instead I love the Pixi Beauty Glow Mist* and I will spray in on my face after moisturising and I feel it just adds that glow I like under my concealer.

Before doing my base I will do my eyebrows. You might be going.. ‘what?’. I used to think that, but since I have been using the Refy brow products I do my brows first. The Refy products by Jess Hunt are quite possibly the best brow products I have ever tried. Normally my brows struggle to stay up with brow gel and I could never get that laminated brow look. But the Refy Stage 1.0 Brow Sculpt is UNREAL. It holds them in place and just makes them look so much better. But you have to apply it before your base makeup to make sure it doesn’t pick up any product from your base makeup. I also use the brow pomade by Refy as it is SO pigmented.

Base wise, I have been steering away from foundation and either using a CC cream and concealer or just concealer on its own. I am really looking forward getting my skin to a place where I can do this more confidently. However I have been loving two concealers specifically that really work with my skin. The first is the Maybelline Anti-Age Eraser Concealer* and the second is the Becca Cosmetics Aqua Illuminator Perfecting Concealer. I am gutted that Becca is closing down as this concealer was amazing for when my eczema flares up on my eyes but I also love the Maybelline concealer. I know some people don’t like the applicator however this concealer blends really nicely. In reality, I wish it had the holding power and doesn’t crease like the Becca Cosmetics one doesn’t however its a really light and buildable concealer. I apply my concealer over any places that I feel need it and also under my eyes.

To hold that together I use my trusty Laura Mercier Translucent Powder* and I literally just swipe that all over my face. This setting powder has been apart of my routine for years and I don’t think I will ever sway from it again.

Next I will apply a bit of mascara. I still have never used flash lashes and I am much more of a natural lash person. Currently I go between the Pixi Beauty Lash Booster Mascara* and the Givenchy Volume Disturbia Mascara*. I use the Pixi mascara when I want something a little bit more natural and then the Givenchy mascara when I want something a little bolder.

My next steps are finishing my face makeup using bronzer, blush and highlighter. Blush is something that is a staple in my makeup routine and I now don’t feel complete without it. I currently am using the remaining edges of my Zoeva blush from the Basic Moments palette*. I don’t think they sell this palette any more. Which I am gutted about as it was a gorgeous palette and all the shades blended really nicely. But I just feel its the perfect blush shade for my skin, despite me now running out of it.

I flicker between two bronzers, a liquid and a powder one. When doing a fuller face of makeup I will reach for my NARS Laguna Liquid Bronzer * which is such a beautiful bronzer to blend. But it doesn’t travel very well, and sometimes can be a bit much for a more natural makeup look. So I also love the Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer in Shady Biz*. This Fenty Beauty bronzer is just effortless on and doesn’t look patchy on the skin. With my bronzer I will add it just below my cheekbones and on my forehead to give some glow.

My go-to highlight which I LOVE is the Becca Cosmetics Champagne Pop* and its such a beautiful highlight. It’s another one which you won’t be able to get for much longer so I recommend stocking up whilst you can. This is honestly such a pigmented highlighter but its also not over powering. To finish off my look I always slather on the Mario Badescu Lip Balm* as I am much more of a lip balm than a lipstick person for every day use.
