'Bloggers Don't Work Hard'

IMG_7896
This is a rant sort of blog post… SOZ if you aren’t into that type of post but I think it’s important to get something off your chest if you have it there. And it makes good blog content yeah?!? I was watching Zoella’s vlog yesterday, and she had this little segment in it about her blog and the tasks that come with running it. She also mentioned about how frustrating it is when someone says something along the lines of ‘Bloggers don’t work hard’ or ‘Blogging isn’t a real job’. I was just like YES GAL U TELL THEM.
This is something that every blogger, no matter what you blog about will understand TO A TEE. TO A BIG MASSIVE TEE. It is something that actually when someone has said it to me upsets me so much because nobody ~ unless you are a blogger ~ realizes the effort and bloody hard work that goes into running a blog.
Blogging is hard work. There is no doubt about it. Anyone who says it in my opinion is just jealous that they aren’t doing as something cool as bloggers are… obvs. I have said this before and I will say it again, blogging is a 24/7 blog. You technically don’t get a break from it because of all the emails or social media notifications. You are always aware that it is there and it is hard to detach yourself from it.
Quite often those who are negative towards blogging one don’t understand really what it is and two don’t understand how the technological and social media world is growing and becoming hugely popular.
If you happen to be reading this because you agree that bloggers don’t try hard then I will give you little insight into my blogging life mixed with my personal life…
I have been running my blog since March 2016… I started it as a little everyday hobbies and since then it has transformed into a little corner of the internet which I share with nearly 10,000 other people. I *try to blog every 2-3 days if I can, that includes taking the photos (at home or going out on shoots), editing those photos, writing the blog post and then editing the blog post, managing the settings and SEO of my blog posts, publishing it and then catching up on comments. Then on my Instagram I try and post every day before nine pm, which includes editing my photos more to suit my theme, writing a catchy caption, adding hashtags which will boost the algorithm of my photo, and catching up on all 6 of the comment pods I am in. I tend to do that at 10PM before I go to bed. This also excludes all the emails, PR requests, Twitter (don’t even get me started on that…) stats and planning etc… YOU GET THE IDEA.
However whilst running that circus I also attend college 5 days a week, in which I am doing 2 A-Levels and a BTEC (FYI I have Geography coursework due in Friday and AHHHH!).  I also have a job working behind for roughly 16 hours a week. So yeah… free time what?? What is that??
‘But blogging is a choice why complain about it’ – I am not complaining ooohhhh no! I LUVVV blogging or else why would I still be doing it. I hope it takes me somewhere in life, but if it doesn’t then I am fine with that too because it has increased my confidence a lot, has made me learn new skills which I am now obsessed with and has improved my vocabulary. I am not a huge book reader so my vocab is not spot on but this has helped a lot.
What do you think about all this? What is your opinion?

  1. YES! I love it when people express these kind of feelings and thoughts because they are so true!

  2. [ Smiles ] The job of a blogger never ends. After publishing an article on our blog, we find ourselves busy putting together another blog post to be published at a future date.

  3. Yesssss! This just gave me so much positive energy! I love it when people rant about something that they’re passionate about, I’m sure you will make something out of blogging!

Even though I am new around here when I’m not writing I’m thinking about writing. We never stop. It is my passion. I have several WIP’s and it’s growing! Good luck with school. I’ve almost got my BA and will start working on my masters soon after.

Blogging is definitely hard work! I only do it in my spare time which isn’t a lot considering I work a full time job but I put a lot of effort and time into it! Totally agree with you 🙂

Blogging is so underestimated, and nobody thinks about all the effort we all put in it. It’s a real tough job and we may not face annoying customers, but there are plenty of ignorant people around as well!! Lovely post, sometimes is really good to put your thoughts out and get it all off your chest x

Girl, preach. If I’m not writing I’m thinking about what would make a good post, if I’ll have enough light for photos after work, how to increase engagement… it never ends. It’s so nice being in a community of bloggers who feel as passionately about it as I do!

  9. Faye says:

I completely agree! I have a full time job which allows me two days off which is fab, in those two days I do everything from photographing posts, to editing photos, to writing up blog posts and adding links and trying to take photos for Instagram and tweet to promote myself all at the same time. I don’t even have my own laptop so I feel like that makes it that little bit harder. Before I know it my 2 days off have gone and passed and then back to work. It IS hard work!

  10. Chrissy says:

Blogging is A LOT of work!! Zero joking. Anyone who thinks that should run one themselves (and run it properly too!). The learning curve I am continually going through, having started with minimal knowledge past ‘writing a blog post’ to what I know and do now it nuts!!

  11. Yes, blogging is hard work. but blog makes you more positive in your life because you are truly passionate about it and you can feel happy.

So true! As a high schooler it is hard to connect with people about why I blog and what it is all about! Don’t get me wrong I love it but it is hard to put so much work into something for people to laugh at it… I say if you don’t understand something someone is doing, then you don’t have the right to judge them for it!

I really love this! I started blogging last year was not thinking it would be as time consuming as it actually is! Most people think we whip up these posts in five minutes and then call it a day.

  15. Yes girl! I’m right there with you! I can never be free of my blog, which isn’t a problem for me. But it can definitely be stressful. I literally work on things and check on my blog during breaks at my other job!

  16. It’s one of those things like any career or hobby…Unless you are actually involved in the specific job or task, you never have a clear understanding of all the hard work that is involved. I am a firm believer that things cannot be truly appreciated unless they have been experienced first hand.
With that being said… Blogging is A LOT of work!

  17. Ange says:

OMFG YES TO THIS POST. It honestly grinds my gears SO much when people spread hate to bloggers for ‘not having a real job’ when in reality we probably work harder and longer hours than a regular job! I think people get this misconception because literally anyone can open up an instagram/twitter/blog account so it kind of doesn’t validate in their eyes as something as ‘real’ as opening up a physical store/office if that makes sense. Since our work is all online and people can’t physically see it in person or touch it. Such an ignorant view though.
I’m so happy that you took a stand for it Emily! I was fist pumping the whole way through this read hahaha xx

    • Thank god!! I loved this reply! Air high five!! It is so frustrating!! Why shouldn’t blogging be considered a real job?? I just don’t understand the mindset of people who say it isn’t!

  22. Lis says:

Deffo a lot of work goes into blogging…thinking of new and interesting content, writing the content, getting it out there, blablabla…it’s A LOT of effort! Especially if you have other things going on in your life too! Good for you for juggling it all! 😊
