Don’t judge I am doing another blogmas post about food YESILOVEIT. I love finding new places to eat, ones which are different from your average Bella Italia meal or Pizza Hut meal. Don’t get me wrong I love a bit of Bella Italia or Pizza Hut they are lushhhhHHHH, but there is just a little bit of excitement when you find something that you have never tried and that is an independent non-chain restaurant.
Today, because the weather was nice my Dad and my gran and I took a trip to Dartington, where we also stopped off at Totnes, which is a little own in Devon. Totnes is known for being a bit out there and different but has loads of lovely independent shops, cafes and restaurants – it’s a bit of a hidden GEM.
For lunch, we decided to go to a place called Jano A Taste Of Sunshine. This is a small Italian restaurant on the main street in Totnes, which was recommended to us by a friend. I love Italian so I thought it would be P.E.R.F.E.C.T. It is a tiny restaurant with only about 5 tables in it but you get really nice vibes from what feels to be a family restaurant. It smelt of cheese when you walked in because they sell cheese and meats over the counter, however you get used to it and I think it is a gorgeous atmosphere for a lunch or evening environment.
Of course, continuing the birthday celebrations, my gran and I shared a bottle of prosecco, which was one of the nicest prosecco’s I have had TBF. I ordered what was the ‘TORTELLI RICOTTA E CARCIOFI AL RAGU’ DI AGNELLO’ which was Fresh tortelloni pasta filled with artichokes and ricotta cheese, with lamb ragù. I think the menu online is slightly different to the one in the restaurant as I think the name was slightly different – however it is still the same thing.
I am not a very adventurous person when it comes to food at all – I am that kind of gal that pulls the salad out the burger… Yeah SOZ. But I impressed myself today as the menu was very different, and not straight forward – rather sophisticated but I LOVED it.
It was basically, in #basicbitchlanguage, pasta parcels filled with an artichoke and ricotta blended mixture, with mined lamb in a creamy sauce with cheese grated on top. It was so yummy, the lamb was cooked so nicely, and the pasta was all homemade. It was so nice to just go out of my comfort zone. My gran had a prawn and lemon pasta which she adored, and my dad had something along the lines of pasta with saffron.
I would go back there again any day, even if it is a little pricier than your average meal out.
Have you ever been to a cozy independent restaurant which you loved?!
